Apologies From Abroad
I know that I have yet to post anything in the last 2 weeks. I am not able to maintain a blog here. I’ll try to reconstruct my experience for you, my starving followers, when I get home, but for now know that I’m having a splendid time and can’t wait to see you all again. auf wedersehen

As you no doubt have guessed, I am currently using the internet. I used my iPhone to email my father about the problem, who responded with an elegant solution. Now that the problem is fixed, I look back at how I reacted to the situation and have learned a lot from it. I truly believed myself able to fix the problem on my own, which is why I was compelled to spend so much time and effort...

Troubleshooting Myself in the Foot
As the wireless internet of the Plus Berlin is shaky at best, a huge buzz topic around the hotel is wifi: who has it, who doesn’t have it, where is it the best, etc. Because of this, many of us have gone to extraordinary measures in attempts to attain and sustain a connection to our precious internet. People have rebooted, reconnected, held their computers to the sky, waited, prayed, and...

Environmental Practices
Already it seems that this city has taken steps to be environmentally responsible. There are no plastic bags here, at all. If you buy groceries you’re carrying them. There’s no free water here. Tap water costs 1.50 E (~2.25$) This can be inconvenient, but it functions as a reminder that water is limited. Lights are all on sensors and timers, so if no one is walking down our...

Berlin Livin'
After our first week of class, Berlin has made a pretty big impression on me and everyone else here. The lifestyle here is unlike anything I’ve experienced. Firstly, the public transportation here is simple, effective, and approachable. Access to any part of the city is a 2 minute walk to the train station away. Everyone who’s gotten “lost” has been able to find their way...

Why am I doing this? Part 3: I doing this
I woke up refreshed, went downstairs, and was delighted to see that my bag had returned! Opening it was like opening a treasure chest full of things I know I already want.  Today was the first day of class, and, to be fair, the first day of the actual program. We also had our orientation, which included many things we had already figured out, but which was good to hear nonetheless. Our classroom...

Why am I doing this? Part 2: First the Wurst
When I finally did get on the shuttle, it was a complete relief. My brain was still fried, my bag was still lost, but for the first time in more than a day, I was with other people. Philip, our organizer, came to pick me and some other UCSD kids from a different program. Being with someone who knew what they were doing and were just as tired as I was made me feel much more comfortable. As we...

Why am I doing this? Part 1: Fight or Flight
Yesterday, I experienced a series of unfortunate events which led me to ask myself this question a healthy number of times. I awoke at 5 in the morning on Saturday to catch an 8:30 flight from SFO. This flight was delayed, which in turn made me unable to reach my connecting flight. In response, Delta rerouted me through a different airline which would send me on a flight through Amsterdam to...

Introduction
I am studying abroad for the next 5 weeks in Berlin. To encourage me to do something noteworthy every day, and to let everyone from California know what my experience is like, I have re-purposed my blog. Should the academic rigors of my German-themed courses preoccupy me, this blog will have to be put on hold, but I will try my best to be entertaining, enlightening, articulate, and to the point. ...
